It is difficult to say how secular entertainments attracted or, on the contrary, annoyed Liszt. On the one hand, they were necessary for a concert musician; to shy away from “living in the world” meant putting an end to one’s career in many ways. Liszt did not even try to do this. He was flattered by enthusiastic admiration, he himself was not averse to courting some arrogant beauty, his passionate temperament demanded a way out. But, on the other hand, a deep creative person, being in the center of attention, did not find satisfaction and felt the pain of communicating with people who were not able to understand his aspirations. That is why, meeting in the same salons of creators close to him in spirit - Hugo, Berlioz or Chopin - Liszt tried to get closer to them so as not to feel alone in a sea of ​​misunderstanding and empty praises. The result of months of throwing between a thirst for fame and dissatisfaction with the work was List's desperate desire to escape from the city somewhere in the bosom of nature, relax and tidy up the shaky nerves.
