Farmer Boys - In My Darkest Hour

There are a couple of sayings in Beethoven’s letters that make it clear that he perceived God as a kind of “supermusic”. This idea was not new, since it went back to Antiquity (not without reason Beethoven often referred to fellow composers as “brothers in Apollon” or even signed “Yours in Christ and Apollon”), and to thinkers of the 16th – 17th centuries (for example, Maren Mersenne and Athanasius Kircher). But in Beethoven’s lips this thought takes on a different, very individual connotation. Reporting on December 29, 1824 to the publisher Johann Joseph Schott about the success of the Overture Hallowing at the Vienna public Overture, Beethoven remarked: “I was praised, extolled, etc. What it costs, however, all this in comparison with the Greatest Composer at the top - above - above; the highest by right, for here, below, only a ludicrous semblance is achieved.And there’s such a subtle little thing !!! ??? ”... In the portrait painted by Stiehler, Beethoven's gaze was fixed on“ The Greatest Composer Upstairs ”, out of reverence for which the Mass was to be completely extraordinary.
