And, based only on the recommendations of Meyerbeer, Wagner had nothing to think of getting such an order himself earlier than seven (!) Years later. At first he indignantly rejected the suggestion of Piye. But need did its job. The libretto was valued at 500 francs. He received this money at the Grand Operator's box office and, with a clear conscience, forgot the French "Dutchman",determined to develop this story again for the German scene. By the way, subsequently Wagner found out with satisfaction that the opera on his plot, renamed to “Ghost Ship” (Vaisseau fantome), written by French composer of German origin, Pierre Louis Philippe Dietch (Dietsch), failed. With Dietch himself, fate will still confront him under very dramatic circumstances.
