Free DownloadMaria Fyodorovna Kalerzhi (Kalergis, in the literature there are variants of Kalergis, Kalerzhi; 1822–1874) - the daughter of the hero of the battle of Borodino, General Fedor Karlovich (Friedrich Karl) Nesselrode (1786–1868), was born in Warsaw and had a rare beauty since his youth. In January 1839, in St. Petersburg, she married a major merchant of Greek origin, Ivan Emanuelovich Kalerzhi (1814–1863). Soon the daughter Maria (1840–1877) was born. But a year later the couple broke up. Having received freedom and considerable fortune, Mary either lived in Petersburg or traveled across Europe. Soon she began to take piano lessons from Chopin and Liszt, who considered her one of her favorite students. Since 1857, she gave piano concerts, and the teacher did not have to blush for her.Kaleři was one of the founders of the Institute of Music in Warsaw (now the Warsaw Conservatory) and the Warsaw Musical Partnership (now the Warsaw Philharmonic). In 1863, she married the hero of defense of Sevastopol, director of the Warsaw theaters Sergei Sergeyevich Mukhanov (1833–1897). Upon learning of her death, Liszt dedicated the Elegy to her, which he performed at a concert in Weimar on June 17, 1875 in memory of this bright and generous woman.
