Craving for the fantastic and otherworldly was a typical sign of romanticism. The departure from the real world, which played a huge role in poetry, can be noted among composers. They sought incentives for creativity not in the nascent industrial society with its social inequality, but in sagas and myths, developed stories about elves, trolls and mermaids, indulged in idyllic descriptions of nature, dreamed of love and inaccessible women, in short, of the impracticable. An important role was also played by dreams of a political nature - freedom, equality and national unification. But one should not forget that romanticism as an era was by no means a single course. Many different directions coexisted in it, so different from each other in different countries, that it simply cannot be reduced to one concept.
