The SSR decided to organize the first stationary opera house in Yerevan, which was created on the basis of the opera class of the Yerevan Conservatory. The opening took place on Jan 20. 1933 post the opera "Almast" by Spendiarov. The theater building was built in 1940 (architect A. I. Tamanyan, 1120 seats).
